Forest Barns is a private hamlet of five luxury self-catering cottages at Sutton Baynham Farm, Littledean, Gloucestershire — at the head of a hidden valley on the Cotswold edge in the Forest of Dean. Geoff and Lynda have lived here for well over three decades; what began as traditional farm buildings has been restored into cottages for guests who want comfort, character, space, and time together.
The hamlet sleeps up to 26 guests across 13 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms: Brambles (2 plus infant), Meadow Byre (4), Orchard Barn (6), The Stables (6), and The Manor (8). Every cottage has its own private hot tub. Larger stays can use shared dining and function spaces so a group can eat together while keeping the privacy of their own cottage. Children are very welcome; dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.
Forest Barns is managed as either a peaceful holiday setting or an agreed private event venue. Weddings and larger group bookings are hosted on exclusive-use, while very small discreet elopements may occasionally be arranged where they will not affect other guests. Short breaks run all year, with flexible changeover days and twilight checkout on Sundays. Are children welcome?
Children are very welcome. On site there is a shared games room, outdoor play (swings, slide, trampoline, Dennis the Dexta tractor), under-5s play, chickens to feed, and baby/toddler equipment at no extra charge if requested at booking. Brambles is designed for couples rather than larger family stays.
Can we book a wedding or exclusive-use celebration?
Yes. Weddings and larger group bookings are hosted on an exclusive-use basis so they do not mix with individual cottage holidays. Forest Barns has licensed indoor and outdoor ceremony spaces, two function rooms, and a premises licence for agreed bar sales. Very small discreet elopements may occasionally be arranged where they will not affect other guests. Contact Lynda before booking online for group or wedding dates.
Which cottages suit reduced mobility?
Meadow Byre has level access from parking and mostly one-level living (two shallow steps into the master bedroom) but is not described as fully wheelchair accessible. Orchard Barn has a disabled parking space and a flat access route, with main accommodation on one level. The Stables has a ground-floor en-suite king bedroom and cloakroom. The Manor is set over three floors and is not suitable for reduced mobility. Read the Access Statement on each cottage page and speak with Lynda before booking.
