Frequently Asked Questions

Q1:How do I get to see a dermatologist here?

You must be referred by a family physician or another doctor. There are no exceptions; referral letters communicate essential history and the main clinical question.

Q2:Can I discuss extra skin concerns not in my referral during the visit?

Appointment time is allotted based on the referral concerns. Additional issues may need review with your family doctor and possibly another referral/appointment.

Q3:Will you remove a mole I don’t like?

They only surgically excise lesions/moles concerning for skin cancer under insured care. Excision of benign nevi is not covered by the ministry of health and must be booked as a cosmetic appointment.

Q4:What if I miss my appointment?

Appointments are confirmed by letter to the referring physician, text reminders, and often phone. If not confirmed within 2 weeks, the appointment may be cancelled. Missing once and wishing to reschedule incurs a $60 fee; 24 hours’ notice is required to reschedule.

Q5:How should I prepare for my visit?

Bring a medication and allergy list; note history of the rash/moles; be prepared for a full skin examination. Arrive 5–10 minutes early to register; being more than a few minutes late may require rescheduling.
