Frequently Asked Questions

Q1:What is psychodynamic therapy?

Psychodynamic therapy focuses on unconscious processes as they manifest in present behaviour. The goal is to develop greater self-awareness and understand how past experiences influence current relationships, decisions, and emotional patterns. It is based on psychoanalytic theory spanning Object Relations, Self Psychology, Ego Psychology, and Freudian traditions.

Q2:Do you offer in-person or online sessions?

Both. Face-to-face sessions at the North London practice (N11 1GN) and online via Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp, FaceTime, or telephone. Many clients find online therapy just as effective as in-person.

Q3:Do you accept health insurance?

Yes. Peter is a recognised provider for AXA Health, BUPA, AVIVA, Simply Health, and CIGNA. Check your policy for psychotherapy cover.

Q4:What is your cancellation policy?

72 hours notice required. Sessions cancelled within 72 hours or missed without notice are charged at the full rate.

Q5:How does payment work?

Initial payment covers two sessions. Thereafter, payment is weekly in advance. No charge for your final session.

Q6:Do you specialise in addictions?

Yes. Peter holds the NCAC from FDAP (Federation of Drug and Alcohol Professionals) and has extensive experience with alcohol, drugs, gambling, internet, social media, food, spending, and behavioural addictions.

Q7:What is the difference between short-term and long-term therapy?

Brief psychodynamic therapy focuses on one or two central issues and typically runs 12-24 sessions. Long-term therapy allows deeper exploration of personality patterns, relationships, and developmental experiences without a fixed endpoint.

Q8:Do you work with couples and adolescents?

Yes. Couples sessions address relationship difficulties and communication. Adolescent therapy supports young people through emotional, identity, and behavioural challenges.
