Our Story

The journey of founding the Snuneymuxw Recreation and Wellness Centre began with a vision; a vision inspired by the need for a space that genuinely honored both wellness and community. Growing up in Nanaimo, I felt the vibrant pulse of our culture, but I also saw gaps in accessible wellness options. With a deep-rooted belief in the healing powers of both physical movement and the arts, I knew I wanted to create a centre where everyone could feel valued and cared for. After years of studying wellness practices and gathering support from our wonderful community, I opened the centre with dreams of offering not only healing, but also connection. Each workshop, class, and program is imbued with love and care, aiming to touch the hearts of residents and visitors alike. I’ve seen firsthand how practices like drumming, storytelling, and mindfulness can heal; they’ve changed me and many others. Seeing smiles on our visitors’ faces, witnessing them find their footing in wellness—this is what drives me every day.
